Not many writers took on a humorous, satirical tone on modern affairs. Lewis's writing style was considered new during the 1920s. Most of his famous and successful novels were written in the 1920s and after the 1930s, he did not manage to write a novel that was not nearly as successful as the ones in the 20s. He often wrote in a satirical tone and made jabs at the corruption and narrow-mindedness of life. His novels are well known for addressing the weaknesses and flaws of the American society. He is famous for writing Babbitt (1922), Arrowsmith (1925), and It Can't Happen Here (1935). Sinclair Lewis is the first author from the United States to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Lewis spent the last years in Europe until 1951 when he died. He would write many novels in the 1920s and later on. The novels only achieved moderate success until Lewis wrote Main Street in 1920 which made him well known. Lewis graduated for Yale University and published a few novels while working as a newspaper man. Harry Sinclair Lewis was born in Sauk Centre, Minnesota in 1885. ![]()
